Does a smart switch work without Wi‑Fi? And 9 other questions people ask

Ten answers about Wi-Fi, internet, power cuts, hubs, fans, appliance ratings, rented homes and smart switch installation.

Quick answer: Some smart switch functions can work locally, but internet loss, Wi-Fi loss and power loss are different situations. Ask what the exact model supports at the wall, on the home network and remotely.

1. Does it work without internet?

Compatible devices can offer local control on the same home Wi-Fi. Remote access, cloud features and voice services may need internet. Check the selected model using the Tixa app guide.

2. What if the Wi-Fi router stops?

App control over that network may be unavailable. Confirm the model’s independent wall controls and hub dependencies; do not assume a local-network feature works with the network switched off.

3. What happens in a power cut?

Powered switches and appliances need electricity. Check the model’s restore-state behaviour before relying on a schedule after power returns.

4. Do schedules run offline?

It depends on where the schedule executes and the devices involved. Ask Tixa to confirm the specific timer, scene or routine in your setup.

5. Does every product need a hub?

No single answer covers the range. Wi-Fi and HomeSync Zigbee products have different requirements. HomeSync needs a compatible hub; verify what is included in the estimate.

6. Can a smart regulator control a BLDC fan?

A conventional fan dimmer does not provide BLDC speed control. Ask about suitable on/off switching or a separately supported control solution for the exact fan.

7. Can I connect an AC or geyser?

Only through a suitable rated control arrangement. The installer must check load, starting current, wiring and appliance requirements. A light output is not automatically suitable.

8. Can I keep my existing switches?

Retrofit Pro may fit compatible existing boards after space and wiring checks. TouchX replaces the panel with a selected glass layout.

9. Can I install it in a rented home?

Get the owner’s permission and agree the installation and restoration scope. Reversibility depends on the board and wiring.

10. How long does installation take?

Timing depends on the number of boards, site condition and any extra work. Ask for a confirmed schedule after the required survey. Use a qualified installer and the model-specific support guides.
