Smart lighting ideas: 8 scenes that make a home feel different

Movie, dinner, night, study, guests, leaving, festival and wake-up: eight scenes you can build in the Tixa app this weekend.

A living room with warm evening lighting

Quick answer: A lighting scene is a saved combination of light levels you trigger with one tap. The eight below cover a normal week: Movie, Dinner, Night, Study, Guests, Leaving, Festival and Wake-up. Each takes a minute to build in the Tixa app and can be assigned to a TouchX scene key.

1. Movie

Main lights off, accent lights at 20 per cent, curtains closed, fan on low. Put it on the living-room panel so nobody reaches for the phone.

2. Dinner

Dining pendant at 60 per cent, kitchen lights on, living room dim. The point is a visible change when the family sits down.

3. Night

Everything off except a bedside lamp at 10 per cent and the hallway light on a motion sensor. Doors lock. This is the one scene every home should have.

4. Study

Desk lamp and ceiling light to full, fan to medium, everything else off. Schedule it on school nights.

5. Guests

Entrance, living room and guest bathroom lights on, curtains open, AC on. Trigger it from the door panel or from the app when the lift arrives.

6. Leaving

All loads off, geyser off, lock engaged, sensors armed. One tap at the door replaces a lap of the house.

7. Festival

Balcony and facade lights on at sunset, accent lights warm, living room bright. Schedule it for the dates and forget about it.

8. Wake-up

Bedroom lamp rises gently, curtains open, geyser on, kitchen light on. See our step-by-step guide to building a morning scene.

Tips

  • Name scenes by moment, not by room; ‘Movie’ beats ‘Living room preset 2’.

  • Put the two scenes you use most on physical scene keys.

  • Use dimming generously; on/off scenes feel like switches, dimmed scenes feel like design.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need special bulbs for dimming?

You need dimmable LED fittings and a dimmer-type Tixa module for that circuit. Most modern panel lights and downlights are dimmable; check the label.

Can a scene include the AC and curtains?

Yes. Any load on a Tixa module, including ACs and curtain controllers, can be part of a scene.

Key takeaways

  • Eight scenes cover a normal week.

  • ‘Night’ and ‘Leaving’ are the two every home should start with.

  • Dimming is what makes scenes feel intentional.
