Troubleshooting: 7 common smart home problems and how to fix them
Separate power, network, device and automation problems, with safe checks and the details Tixa support needs for model-specific help.

Quick answer: Identify whether the problem affects one device, one room or the whole home, then separate power, network and app issues. If you notice heat, burning smell, sparks or repeated tripping, stop using the affected circuit and get qualified electrical help before app troubleshooting.
1. A device appears offline
Check whether it has power and whether other devices on the same network are reachable. Check the router and any required hub using their normal indicators. Do not open an energised switchboard. Follow the exact model’s setup and support guide before resetting it.
2. Local control works but remote access fails
Confirm internet access at home and on the phone, and check the correct account and home. A working Wi-Fi connection does not prove the internet service is available. Model-specific cloud services may affect remote functions.
3. Voice control fails
Test the device in the Tixa app first. Then check the assistant account, linking and discovery using the current guide. Alexa, Google Assistant and Siri Shortcuts expose different supported actions.
4. A scene skips an action
Test the affected device individually. Check that the action is supported, the device is reachable and the scene uses the intended room and circuit. A printed scene symbol does not create an unsupported hardware function.
5. A schedule runs at the wrong time
Check time zone, repeat days and the enabled schedule. Ask where the schedule executes and whether network access is required. Check the model’s behaviour after a power interruption rather than assuming all schedules resume identically.
6. A fan hums or will not regulate properly
Confirm fan type and regulator compatibility. A conventional fan dimmer must not be used for BLDC speed control. Noise can have several causes; stop using an unsuitable combination and ask the installer to inspect it.
7. A sensor triggers unexpectedly
Check placement, mounting, battery and the conditions the sensor is designed to detect. Available sensitivity and timeout settings vary. Test normal room behaviour before relying on an automation.
What to send support
Contact Tixa through the support contact page with the device model, app version, time of the issue, error message and which local or remote controls still work. Share a safe front photo if useful; keep passwords and private quote codes out of screenshots. Read the connectivity FAQ for the differences between internet, Wi-Fi and power loss.
Plan your next step
Use the Tixa room quotation builder to list your rooms and controls. Tixa will confirm the selected models, compatibility, current prices and installation scope before an order.
